Chappell School "Friends of" meeting re-cap!

Over a dozen neighbors met last Thursday to learn about ongoing efforts to support Chappell Elementary school. Parents, prospective parents, community members and even the big cheese,  Principal Mr. Joseph Peila,  were on hand to greet neighbors and talk about "next steps".

The group heard some great ideas and inspirational stories from Wendy Vasquez, a founding member of Friends of Ravenswood School .  They started in a similar situation... a good school that needed to reach out to the attendance district community.

The attendees agreed.... continuing to communicate the accomplishments of the school, teachers and students to the general public is Job #1.  Read CPS Chappell Reports HERE.  The buzz about Chappell around the North Side is very good and we want to keep that going.  Several attendees agreed to take on tasks to reach out to the community. The Friends of Chappell volunteers are working closely with the school to streamline communications.

Attendees were reminded of several easy ways to help fund raise for the school.  See the link HERE for the current ongoing fund raisers.   Neighbor Kris Swanberg has been instrumental in helping teachers with DonorsChoose projects. Parents and community members can help fund projects by simply reaching out to other parents, neighbors and relatives.
Click HERE for current Chappell teacher DonorsChoose projects!

*Neighbors and parents may also team up with a teacher to start and fund a project!
The Kindergarten classes just funded a $1,000 project in 4 days!

Feel free to contact Chappell parent and LSC Representative Eric Rojas at ericrojas2@gmail.com to be placed on email communications for Friends of Chappell general activities or to ask questions about having kids at the school.  You may also learn more about ongoing accomplishments and needs of the school by attending the Local School Council meetings...next up Friday, March 8th at 4PM in the Old Gym.

Thank you to Dolce Casa Cafe for hosting. A big thank you to all the attendees, Friends of Chappell volunteers and Chappell donors for your support!
