Other items discussed are developing youth sports leagues specifically at Winnemac Park (i.e. Welles Park and Warner Park baseball) in sports where there is great local demand and a regular corps of gardeners to help with the prairies and community gardens.

47th Ward Council Meets & Examines it's Purpose

The sixth meeting of the 47th Ward Council took place this past Wednesday, May 16th at St. Benedict's Church. Alderman Pawar started things off speaking of  his reasoning behind his council votes on The Infrastructure Trust and speed camera ordinance. A discussion of the Infrastructure Trust led into a sobering reminder about Chicago's and Illinois' unfunded pension issues. If no solution is found, an automatic property tax increase is set to take place in 2015-16. After the Alderman spoke, we broke down into smaller groups to discuss and review the Ward Council itself.

Free concert or Amundsen band practice?

Neighbor Amy caught this Amundsen High School band practice outside along Foster Avenue on Tuesday morning @10:30am. Such a great thing!

We love the little things about having a large "campus park" with two schools in the neighborhood.

40th Ward Town Hall Meeting

A large part of the Winnemac Park Neighborhood is transitioning into the 40th Ward, represented by Pat O'Connor. Alderman O'Connor will be having a Ward Town Hall Meeting at Amundsen High School on Monday, June 11th. From his website:
Residents of the ward are invited to come and listen to the Alderman’s State of the Ward Address regarding various area specific developments and to answer any questions residents may have. The local police commander will be on hand to answer questions and concerns as well as the 40th Ward Streets and Sanitation Superintendent and Building Department representative.
If you are unsure whether you live in the 40th ward, if you want to know when and how this transition may affect you, or if you just want to learn about your new alderman, you are invited to join your neighbors at this meeting.

Neighbors clean-up, eat up at Clean and Green

Last Saturday, April 21st about 30 neighbors and kids came out to tidy up Winnemac Park as part of the 47th Ward's Clean and Green day. The ship-shape park just needed a little detailing but we still managed to fill a large garbage bin with bags of debris and weeds.

A big thanks to neighbors Karen Kolb and Elizabeth Mankowski who coordinated and promoted the event. Winnemac Park Neighbors provided coffee and a check-in desk. Thanks to Alderman Pawar and 47th Ward's Dara Salk for stopping by and bringing donuts!

Active Winnemac Park Neighbors fuel up on donuts and coffee

We look forward to regular clean-up day events throughout the year in the park.  There are also other opportunities to help with the park's beloved prairie plantings, paths and fields.

Check out Square Care and register to work on several projects around Winnemac Park and Chappell school this Sunday May 6th 2012.
