Free snow salt, shoveling for our neighbors!

Stuck. Photo Eric Rojas

Thanks to everyone for attending the last meeting on Tuesday night.  The next meeting will be Tuesday February 21st at 7PM, Dolce Casa Cafe, 4947 N Damen (and we'll have a microphone!). Agenda is pending, but we hope to have the Winnemac Park supervisor address the group.

Please see the note below about snow salt and shoveling.  I will be able to pick up a bag or two for 2200 block of Winona.  A couple neighbors have difficulty shoveling/ de-icing thier walks.  My suggestion would be for someone (or a few people) on a block go ahead and salt/shovel areas on the block left undone.  We know it's not uncommon for neighbors to just go ahead and shovel each other sidewalks when they are out there anyway.

Thanks Mark!

Subject: Helpful Winter Items for the Ward

We have been given some items that can  help our neighbors this winter and wonder if you could get them picked up/distributed.

$40 Weatherization Vouchers from Home Depot are available. They must be used by April 1st for any of the following:
Programmable thermostats, insulation, caulk, furnace filters, windows, doors.
If you know of anyone in your area who would benefit from one of these vouchers, please let me know and I will bring them with
me to the Ward Council Meeting on January 17 or you may pick them up in the office. The only thing we need is a name and address of the recipient.

One of our neighbors, Mark Buban, works for Morton Salt and has graciously offered the ward approximately 100, 25lb. bags of Safety Plus snow salt.
We want to make this salt available to the ward seniors or disabled or anyone who may be shoveling for them.
We also need a couple of people who have trucks and would be willing to pick up the salt? We can store it here in the ward office and make it available to anyone who needs it.

Also, we are partnering with the Mayor’s new initiative for helping neighbors with snow removal. When seniors or the disabled sign-up either with our office or through the city, we will be contacting you. When volunteers come forward to help with shoveling, we will get them in contact with you, as well. We will all have to be vigilant to protect our most vulnerable citizens – we don’t want to have anyone taken advantage of.

Thanks so much for all you do to keep our ward the best place to live in the city.
